Would you like to make a bird-feeding garden at home? Did you know that we can make the perfect soil for a seed to grow? Using all the ingredients in your bird seed ball packet, you can make a tiny garden to grow sunflowers to feed the birds. Here’s how to do it:

Empty the contents of your packet into a small bowl.

These all are the ingredients of healthy soil: compost, sand, clay and new seeds.

Mix.

Add just a little bit of water. Only enough to make your mixture sticky, but not runny.

Scoop up the sticky mix with your fingers or a spoon and drop it into your hand.

Now the fun starts!

Squeeze and roll the mixture into a ball, or any other shape you like.

Dry your seed ball at home and wait for warm weather.

Can you guess what will happen if you put your seed ball in a sunny spot outside in your garden when the warm spring weather arrives? You’re right! The seeds will sprout and soon you will see your bird-feeding garden grow.

You can help the birds that live near your house in other important ways by providing fresh water, birdhouses, and other trees and plants that grow berries and seeds that birds like to eat. That’s the way to help the Earth!

Happy Earth Day from TBG
