This NEW
series will inspire you to grow, prepare and eat fresh locally-grown produce.
You will learn how we grow our vegetables and fruits and then taste them
in dishes prepared by a professional chef. Each evening event will also
include a gardening / culinary author each of whom is passionate about
locally-grown food and sustainable farming techniques. Paul Zammit, TBG
Director of Horticulture hosts each event.

Eat Your
Greens: Salads, Brunch and more
Thursday, June 29, 7 to 9 p.m.
Not only are greens good for you, they are delicious - particularly when
they are prepared by Chef Simon Kattar and a special guest chef. Join
us on a green and leafy culinary and horticultural experience as we tour
the TBG's container gardens - filled to the brim with a colourful assortment
of the freshest greens, pea sprouts, chards, seasonal fruit and more -
and then taste these very vegetables and fruits at the cafe. Author of
City Farmer: Adventures in Urban Food Growing and well-known garden writer,
Lorraine Johnson will join us.

So where do you buy locally-grown foods and how do you know what to buy?
Urban hunter and gatherer and food columnist for CBC Radio's Here&Now,
Sarah Elton, will let you in on all the secret eateries and markets she
has discovered. She will also highlight compelling reasons all Canadians
should go local (check out her new book, Locavore, for more). Chef Simon
Kattar shows his usual magic creating delectable summer appetizers sourced
from locally-grown foods and from our kitchen garden.

Come experience Italian cuisine with fresh produce harvested from our
very own Italian Kitchen Garden. Join Chef Simon Kattar and a special
guest chef who will whet your taste buds with innovative and healthy recipes
using tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, herbs, basil, garlic, seasonal fruit
and more - all of which will be ripe for harvesting. Author of Incredible
Edibles: 43 Fun Things To Grow In the City and Toronto Star columnist,
Sonia Day will give you tips on growing these vegetables and, in her usual
exuberant way, show us just how incredible these edibles are.
