Here at the TBG, every day is Earth Day. Our staff, volunteers, supporters and community networks work together year-round to help bring to life the TBG's green practices, environmental initiatives and educational efforts. Come to Toronto Botanical Garden on Thursday, April 21 and help us launch a week of activities. 

Thursday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.:

  • Free Garden Tours at 12 and 2 p.m. 
  • In partnership with Toronto Master Gardeners, the TBG is selling rain barrels for just $55. 
  • The TBG Rain Barrel Design competition!  Toronto celebrities made-over Plain Jane rain barrels to help raise awareness that every drop counts! Decorated rain barrels will be on display to inspire you. 
  • Have the first opportunity to purchase freshly dug divisions of choice perennials from the TBG garden as selected by head gardener, Sandra Pella. Bring your own containers. Freshly lifted from our garden to yours. This is the ideal time of year to replant right into your garden.
  • The Great Potato Challenge! TBG is teaching school kids about growing and giving back to their community. Classes will plant potatoes to nurture at school and shown how easily they multiply when grown in simple recycling bins. Can they beat the TBG's yearly average of 700 lbs. of fresh produce donated to the local food bank? All potatoes will be donated to the North York Harvest Food Bank.

Friday, April 22, 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. TBG is heading downtown to the ROM:

  • Life in the City: A Nature Walk in the Heart of Toronto Schad Gallery, ROM
    Built from the surrounding bedrock and inhabited by native and far-flung flora and fauna, a city hides its natural origins in plain sight. Take a virtual nature walk from Queen and John to King and Simcoe Streets through images and interactive learning stations. Discover how nature unfolds amid towers and taxicabs. Become an urban naturalist and see the city with new eyes

Saturday, April 23, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  • Purchased rain barrels can be picked up in the TBG parking lot.
  • Master Gardeners will be available to answer any of your gardening questions.
  • Freshly dug divisions from the TBG garden will be available to purchase. 
  • The Rhododendron and Azalea annual plant sale, 9:30a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Shop TBG will be open with new Spring product

Wednesday, April 27, 1 to 4 p.m.
Planting of the TBG's Pollinator Garden|

While bees may forage many kilometres away from the hive, gardens are a critical source of food and water for urban bees. In this hands-on session, TBG's Director of Horticulture Paul Zammit will review the best choices of plants for bee nutrition throughout the growing season. Participants will take part in the planting of the TBG's Oliver Couto loves bees Pollinator Garden and prepare the platforms for May's hive installation.  

Friday, April 29, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

  • TBG's new Woodland Walk and Bird Habitat will begin planting with the help of many generous volunteers.This is also the morning of the much anticipated Royal Wedding so the TBG is having a Royal Wedding Breakfast for the participating volunteers to share in the celebration.
