Muscular,
bold and contemporary, the crisp geometric lines of the sculptural hedges
are shaped by metal cages and maintained by careful pruning. The hedges
provide a counterpoint to the flowing lines of the perennials and grasses
in the Entry Garden Walk. At night, these living sculptures are illuminated
with subtle, energy-efficient LED lighting.

(Fagus sylvatica) and Cornelian cherry dogwood
(Cornus mas) hedges are shaped by metal cages

- The courtyard
is shaded by a grouping of maples
with interesting bark such as stripebark or snakebark maple (Acer
davidii) and paperbark maple (Acer griseum).
- To conserve
water, storm water runoff is collected and filtered through a strip
in the pavement, recycled into the soil and down to the water table
through an extensive subdrain system.
