In September 2006, the Toronto Botanical Garden officially opened a series of 12 contemporary themed gardens spanning nearly four acres. The landscaping enhances the educational experience by providing demonstration gardens and areas for hands-on learning. The gardens are compact, reflecting the scale of a typical urban setting, making it easy for visitors to translate the ideas into their own gardens. This summer, visit the Kitchen Garden, The theme of the 2010 kitchen garden draws inspiration from the beautiful and culturally rich country of Italy. Fragrant Rosemary, delicious fresh basil, dramatic artichokes and a rainbow of tomatoes are just a sampling of the plant staples we will be growing this season. The garden is sure to be a feast for the senses from early spring through fall. We are very excited to have Frank Ferragine (aka Frankie Flowers) of City TV assist with the design and layout of the garden plan. Visit often and explore the possibilities of how you can create a "Taste of Italy" in your own home garden. Be sure to watch for our Taste of the Garden special evenings throughout the summer months. We'll also be trialing a variety of new introductions from Proven Winners throughout the summer.
