Cacti
and Other Succulents
Some selected
resources of note.
Books
(our library has most of these titles)
- Cactus
in the Snow: A Guide to Growing Hardy Cacti in the Wet and Frozen North,
by Bruce Brethauer
- Growing
Winter Hardy Cacti in Cold/Wet Climate Conditions, by John N. Spain
(These two books are perfect for those who want to grow winter hardy
cactus in Canada successfully).
- The Ultimate
Book of Cacti and Succulents, by Miles Anderson (Good all around resource,
well illustrated and comprehensive.)
- The Complete
Book of Cacti & Succulents, by Terry Hewitt (Similar in look and
layout to the above Ultimate Book of Cacti and Succulents, also a good
all around resource.)
- Stuck
on Cactus: A Beginning Grower's Guide, by David E. Wright (No frills
guide for the beginner that's simple to use).
- Cacti
and Succulents, by Hans Hecht
(This one is helpful because the author is based in Germany, and writes
about care requirements for specific cacti when in a northern climate.)
- The Cactus
Family, by Edward F. Anderson
(Considered the definitive work on cactus, more botanical in nature
than how to grow them at home, though.)
- 500 Cacti:
Species and Variations in Cultivation, by Ken Preston-Matham (Good guide
for identification and basic information)
- Designing
With Succulents, by Debra Lee Baldwin
(A nicely illustrated book on landscaping with succulents, author covers
many climate zones, including colder ones).
