These hands-on outdoor classes are designed for the beginner to the avid gardener and feature practical how to information with live demonstrations in the TBG gardens. Please meet in the Demonstration Courtyard for all outdoor gardening classes and dress for the weather.

Saturdays in the Garden

Each month, come to the TBG for outdoor, hands-on learning with our local gardening guru, Jeff Mason. We’ll explore the monthly tasks required to keep your garden at its best, from pest and disease identification to pruning for maximum results! Class is held outdoors in the garden, light rain or shine.

Get Your Garden Ready for Spring: The Big Clean!

Time to wake up your garden! If you are eager to get back out in the garden, join the TBG gardeners in this hands-on outdoor class. It’s time to clean up the garden and prepare it for the growing season. Our expert gardeners will discuss the protection of young plants, the removal of burlap, cutting back perennials left for winter interest, spring weeding and mulching tips, how to prepare and use your compost, and other odds and ends that need to be done so your garden is ready to grow.

Spring in the Garden: The Big Dig!

It’s Earth Day and the perfect time to start digging in your garden. Our experienced gardeners will show you how and what to plant for summer, how to divide and transplant existing plants, what to add for healthy soils, including spring fertilizing tips and organic methods for pest and disease control, and a quick overview of spring pruning. (Pair this afternoon course with our evening course, Pruning Made Easy). Your garden will never look better!

Planting and Growing in the Kitchen Garden
from India

This year’s kitchen garden will feature vegetables, herbs and other plants used in Indian cuisine, sacred rituals and medicine. Join the TBG gardeners for this outdoor hands-on course where you’ll learn how to design, seed, plant, stake, maintain and harvest an Indian kitchen garden. Sources for seeds and plants will be provided. A selection of different tasks and techniques will be discussed in each class.
